A comprehensive list of all publications about the viol last updated in 1997.  A wonderful resource though unfortunately as yet has no facilities for searching or cross-referencing.

 

Technical Drawings of Viols in Public Collections of the World

This is a list of drawings of historical viols readily available on microfilm from various museums around the world.

 

Orpheon Foundation

The site for this Vienna-based foundation includes numerous images of their staggeringly large collection of original viols.

Saul B. Groen

Saul Groen's specialist early music shop in Amsterdam has probably the most complete catalogue of viol music, and it's all online.  Highly recommended.

 

Boulder Early Music Shop On-Line

US shop with an extensive online catalogue of music.  Also sells instruments.

Scholarly US editions of a wide variety of chamber music.

Important facsimile series of Renaissance prints.

Interesting series of German repertoire.

 

Editions J. M. Fuzeau

Good facsimile series for French baroque music.

 

Gamba Music Club

Interesting selections of viol consort music published on a one-off basis each year at amazingly low prices!  The Club's membership list (UK-based so far) also offers a way for amateur players to contact others for consort sessions.

 

Minkoff

Probably the most extensive facsimile series of solo viol music, especially French, but very expensive.

 

PRB Productions
Big US catalogue with a very useful range of English consort music, contemporary music and more besides.

 

Saraband Music

Small Australian publisher.

 

Seicento

Mainly solo music, most unusually including several volumes of English lyra music transcribed for ordinary bass viol.

 

Stainer & Bell

Publisher among other things of the important Musica Britannica series, including parts for some volumes.

 

Susato Press

Small US publisher, some curiosities.
